Carlos Flores López

Carlos Flores López is a distinguished architect, historian, and critic of contemporary architecture, born in Ocaña, province of Toledo, in 1928. He was educated at the School of Architecture in Madrid, where he earned his doctorate in 1958. His career has primarily focused on the theory and history of architecture, with particular attention to both popular and contemporary architecture in Spain.

Among his most well-known works are “Arquitectura española contemporánea” (1961), a significant reference in the study of modern architecture in Spain, and “Arquitectura popular española” (1972-1976), a five-volume work that extensively documents the traditional architecture of various Spanish regions. He also published “Gaudí, Jujol y el modernismo catalán” (1982), a book that explores the contributions of these architects to Catalan modernism.

Flores has held important roles in the academic and cultural spheres, including his work as an advisor for the Architecture section of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Español and his direction of the magazine “Hogar y Arquitectura.” His efforts have been fundamental in promoting the understanding and appreciation of both vernacular and modern architecture in Spain.
